‘Invisible Knapsack’ : When Your PhD Isn’t Worth the Paper It’s Written On

By Ex-Leftist

Peggy McIntosh.

Radical feminist and racist Critical Theory “whiteness studies” lunatic who has made a literal decades-long career out of trashing white people and men. Why do those like her teach her garbage in schools? Because “white privilege pedagogy demands confession from students.” And why do they go after students? They’re in (paid) positions of trust where they can indoctrinate people who are not yet intellectually equipped to give their tormentors the finger. These kids are ripe for exploitation; they want white kids to hate their culture, race, identity, nationality, and push these things away from them like a bowl of steaming dog feces. What happens then? The largest obstacle in the way of the Left controlling the West commits suicide.

McIntosh is one of the main people behind the concept of “white privilege” aside from open Communists such as the (thankfully) deceased W.E.B. DuBois. Every single one of these “thinkers” is a Left wing radical.

To illustrate the abject mindlessness of the radical Left’s junk neo-Marxist theories, I’ve selected the most popular essay this woman has produced which is also a very common introduction for young people into the ideas of Critical Race Theory and white privilege. It’s called White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack. This essay (I’m tempted to call it ASSay) was written in 1988, before the US was deluged in millions of illegal aliens that we have now and before the mass deluge of mass immigration from Asia and Africa we see today. These demographics are important to consider as the contextual backdrop of McIntosh’s essay.

It’s no exaggeration to say that I have probably not read a poorer paper from a college professor in my entire life. I had an English professor who spent the entire semester trying to trash capitalism, America, and induce white guilt. This battle axe is on par. McIntosh’s reasoning is as if she has the level of cognitive ability of a 10 year old child. She wrote the paper at an 8th grade level of English for her reading audience, and it’s a shame to see her intellectual prowess can’t even reach that level.

I’d love to see the original draft as I’d look for it having been written in finger paint.

From her white privilege checklist, with my comments underneath each:

1. I can if I wish arrange to be in the company of people of my race most of the time.

This is true for any race, so why harp on white folks? Whites usually marry whites, blacks usually blacks, Latinos usually Latinos, and so forth. Further, in a historically white-majority nation (whites were 90% of the US population until the late 20th century), it’s by default that it’s going to be easier to travel about and be in large numbers of white folks as opposed to large numbers of black people or another race. Is this a sign of evil or simple demographic fact, and why are such demographic facts not addressed here?

Are Indian reservations examples of Red Privilege?

White people ALONE are selectively trashed for self-segregating into their own racial enclaves such as we see here with this essay. The one-sided outrage you see here par for the course with the Left.

Where are people trashing self-segregating blacks, Latinos, Asians, etc? Did white people make them immigrate here and immediately lock them into a racial enclave or did they gravitate toward that of their own free will because it resembles where they came from and what they’re accustomed to, and why does this not make them oppressors in need of being attacked? Why is nobody attacking their identities?

2. If I should need to move, I can pretty sure of renting or purchasing housing in an area which I can afford and in which I would want to live.

This isn’t 1920. Furthermore, this woman is leaving out that whites moving into historically black communities often report verbal and sometimes physical abuses on account of race from their black neighbors, if not at least a cold shoulder. Is this a sign of black privilege? Must be since blacks aren’t being called on it.

South Central LA is having a huge problem with large numbers of Latinos moving into historical black areas and racially harassing the blacks out. Nobody mentions it, let alone goes on the attack.

3. I can be pretty sure that my neighbors in such a location will be neutral or pleasant to me.

See above. The shoe apparently doesn’t fit on the other foot when one has a racial bone to pick. This is universally true when someone of one ethnic or racial background lives among similar; it’s not a white thing and to suggest otherwise is absolutely pathetic.

4. I can go shopping alone most of the time, pretty well assured that I will not be followed or harassed.

One thing the Left often do is blindly take every claim of racially-motivated following or racially-motivated “harassment” seriously as legit on face value. These people are never questioned as to their own biases that may have colored the situation in a certain direction in their perception which may not have been an accurate assessment of what was going on, let alone that some people simply make things up when they’ve had some unpleasant experience in some manner in a business dealing.

I’m white and I’ve been followed by some Asian trinket store owners in downtown Denver. Perhaps I should have cried, “Asian privilege!!!” We were once denied admittance into a Denny’s in Inglewood, CA after the ASIAN manager wouldn’t unlock the doors during business hours to let us in when there were people dining inside. I’ve also been subject to racial litmus tests by many black co-workers who put any new white acquaintance under an ideological sniffer, presuming them likely to be a racist. Where are whites doing such things to black people? Black privilege? Sounds like it, because clearly whites wouldn’t be allowed to put every black person they met under an are-you-a-criminal litmus test.

The basic fact that the racial shoe goes on the other foot is something these Leftist ideologues spend great deals of time trying to hide from and rationalize away. One main way they do this is to claim their racism 1) isn’t racism because they’re invoking the Critical Theory definition of racism which is “power plus prejudice equals racism,” and that 2) they are “reacting” to racism even though they’ve never met the object of their racial hostility in their entire life. They are not reacting to anything, but they are projecting racial animus.

Is there a specific reason we should act as if the claims of non-whites of white people are always legitimate on face value? That’s quite an elevation of blind faith in humans to insinuate they are beyond question and as such it’s borderline idolatry. Even dumber is to tie in personal slights with a “system of oppression” as writings as this paper are meant to do.

5. I can turn on the television or open the front page of the paper and see people of my race widely represented.

Because in a country that has been 90% historically white much of its history, we should be seeing wide array of hues: Inuit, Mongolian, Pygmy, Tibetan, Pakistani…

There’s racism there alright. She’s saying that if a country is heavily white, the media isn’t allowed to reflect it. It has to reflect the Utopian multiracial wonderland these Leftist ideologues like, even if reality doesn’t reflect it… And they only apply this standard to white folks.

6. When I am told about our national heritage or about “civilization,” I am shown that people of my color made it what it is.

I’m sorry, was the United States founded by Zulus or Chinese? There’s your answer. This just goes to show the type of fabrication of history that these people expect to see in order to even the playing field in their eyes. Again, do they subject this kind of hostility to anyone but white people? Nope.  The truth is, white men have been the inventors of a massively disproportionate number of things we use in the modern world, and recognizing that fact is not racist. It is racist to deny it if the motives are racial.

7. I can be sure that my children will be given curricular materials that testify to the existence of their race.

I wouldn’t expect to see much of white people history if I attended school in China. Racist? No. Just fact.  Do Mexican schools give their kids a goodly dose of the Louisiana Purchase? Are you loco?

What we’ve seen for a good time now is curricular materials singularly attack white racial existence and white racial identity, much along the lines of the likes of this neo-Marxist ideologue. Indeed she makes a career of “teaching” this identity-attacking drivel in Berkeley.

One thing school books do NOT do is attack the identification of and existence of other racial groups. They never have and it’s a strict no-go zone. That absolutely cannot be said for white people. Is this attacking or otherwise singularly undermining white identity to be equal acts of both racism and racial privilege? I think so.

8. If I want to, I can be pretty sure of finding a publisher for this piece on white privilege.

And long before this woman wrote this horrifyingly dumb paper, book stores nationwide were gleefully peddling a radical Leftist racist screed by Eldridge Cleaver titled Soul on Ice in which he described serially raping white women, calling it “an insurrectionary act.”

Black privilege? Sounds like it – name one white guy that would get published and sold at Barnes and Noble for writing shit like that about raping black people.

Since when did publishers accept a transcript simply because the author was white? Delusion!

This dumb broad acts like she wrote this paper in 1788, not 1988.

9. I can go into a music shop and count on finding the music of my race represented, into a supermarket and find the staple foods which fit with my cultural traditions, into a hairdresser’s shop and find someone who can cut my hair.

Actually she couldn’t if she lived in a black community and not a white one. I had that experience as a teenager when we stopped at a record store in South Central LA. It was nearly all rap, soul and R&B. We were the only white folks in the store (and yes the blacks stared at us). She seems to have ASSumed shops in black communities are like ones she sees in white areas where she self-segregated. I can almost see this woman waddling through a store in a suburban white community looking around angrily and scribbling on her notepad.

Can you get more business-illiterate than this?

As usual, these racial bean-counters have no concept of business serving the majority population in which they’re located. If you want Jheri Curl juice, don’t expect to find it in a 98% white town with no black people living there. This isn’t racism – this is economics and these radical buffoons have no idea of basic economic concepts.

Is that black communities don’t have tanning salons a sign of black privilege and racism – or is it just common sense business? And why do we keep having to explain this? Perhaps the lack of German restaurants in East LA are indicative of Latino privilege and racism? Must be since white areas have plenty of Mexican food joints!

Dumb. As. Rocks.

10. Whether I use checks, credit cards, or cash, I can count on my skin color to not work against the appearance of financial reliability.

First of all, it’s simply a fact that blacks and Latinos have less education, lower incomes, and poorer credit ratings than whites. Suffice it to say this is also going to be reflected in credit approvals. Is this racist? No; businesses are not required to commit economic suicide to satiate radical racial bean counters. If it’s a matter of a perception issue when a person of a particular color pays for something, then what we see here is the usual framing of white boss/black or brown customer being stiffed as if no other thing happens. This is a stereotype and such things are not where you find truths to trash an entire race of people. It is no less stereotyping to cast a white person as a singular racial predator as it is a non-white person necessarily a singular high credit risk.

What of this is so effing difficult?!

If a small sample reflects the whole in one demographic, then so it does with others. It is absolutely astounding how many times I have caught these types of people invoking stereotypes.

Time and again they accuse others of committing the very acts they do while they commit those acts.

11. I can arrange to protect my children most of the time from people who might not like them.

What in the hell is this? Most black victims of violent crime are victimized at the hands of other black people. Black people have as much right as anyone else to defend themselves and purchase defensive weapons within the law. There is NOTHING here indicative of any white-specific privilege of protection for children that nobody else enjoys. What a load. Again – stereotyping!

12. I can swear, or dress in secondhand clothes, or not answer letters, without having people attribute these choices to bad morals, the poverty, or the illiteracy of my race.

Conflating the views of a few with the whole is repulsive. Furthermore, this author and those like her does this to whites all the time with the endless invocations of white evil racial conspiracy theories. Are black people subject to being treated as guilty of crimes before proven innocent and expected to allow themselves to be racially browbeaten and enter a collective racial confessional?

13. I can speak in public to a powerful male group without putting my race on trial.

This attitude is seen across the color spectrum and there is no excuse to harp on only white people about it. That is some racist shit.

What are fields such as “white privilege” and “whiteness studies” if not putting an entire race on trial and trying to extract confession?

Clearly, they don’t mind putting races on trial; it’s a matter of WHICH ONE. But it isn’t racism as long as it’s not the white race on trial? Excuse you?

14. I can do well in a challenging situation without being called a credit to my race.

I’ve gotten this. I have been called a credit to and exception example of my race because black co-workers I’ve had in the past were so embroiled in their white-hate and hostile attributional bias, they think nearly every cracker is out to get them in spite of the evidence and I was a rare exception in their eyes.

These radicals obsess over white people and refuse to address the entire spectrum of hostile racial attitudes from all directions because of the false belief that because of things like slavery, it’s acceptable and expected for black people to project the resentment of the past on the living for no reason other than skin color. These radicals are either so brainwashed they can’t think straight OR they have lower expectations of decent conduct for black people, which would make them… Racist.

Just someone please show me one psychologist that says collective hatred and misplaced rage is appropriate and healthy behavior, because I can’t find one.

And the Left are saying black people with these attitudes can’t be expected to behave more appropriately.

15. I am never asked to speak for all the people of my racial group.

Yet this author is doing just this with white people. This is also one of the expectations I’ve had foisted onto me by racist black co-workers as well. Black privilege rears its ugly head again?

Oversimplification is not “white privilege.” It’s oversimplification.

16. I can remain oblivious of the language and customs of persons of color who constitute the world’s majority without feeling my culture any penalty for such oblivion.

Yet white-majority countries are the largest number of nations with foreign language programs in schools. What comes with such classes? Immersion in that culture. How is this “white privilege”? Indeed it’s many of the non-white nations which are isolated and oblivious.

17. I can criticize our government and talk about how much I fear its policies and behavior without being seen as a cultural outsider.

Yet this woman has already said these non-whites are cultural outsiders, so she wants white people to take on a mindset she herself doesn’t share and acknowledges doesn’t even exist.

There is no denying the fact that non-whites in the US, especially in more modern times, have been encouraged to give the finger to the United States as they see it as “a white thing.” In other words, a thing that isn’t of their people but of someone else’s people – which it is. This isn’t about white privilege, this is about how multiracial/multicultural societies are always full of competing identities, identity politics, and Balkanization – encouraged by the Left and especially those who espouse “whiteness studies.” The plain and simple fact is that it is sometimes TRUE that ethnocentric foreign motivations among minority (especially immigrant) groups are what drive their criticisms of the US government. This woman is playing make-believe all criticisms of the type are necessarily benign and that’s not the case. It depends on the situation.

That only whites are accused in this atmosphere isn’t a sign of white privilege but of brown, black and yellow privilege. These people are encouraged to be go-getters for their racial interests while trashing whites for the same. Whiteness studies/white privilege/Critical Race Theory in a nutshell, folks.

18. I can be pretty sure that if I ask to talk to “the person in charge,” I will be facing a person of my race.

More demographic illiteracy. More ignorance of lower education rates among blacks and Latinos. More ignorance of high dropout rates among blacks and Latinos. But as usual, these racist ideologues eye any single kind of unequal outcome, they don’t consider all variables but rather take out the “blame whitey” script and let loose more acidic ideological flatus.

Smells good, doesn’t it?

19. If a traffic cop pulls me over or if the IRS audits my tax return, I can be sure I haven’t been singled out because of my race.

Since when was the race of the person alone legitimate reason to worry of being singled out by race? She is saying their race alone is cause for concern; not their actions. Again, a projected presumption of guilt which is solely the fault of the hostile person projecting a very poor attitude. And that is racist.

Let’s draw a comparison: Black people commit most crime and most interracial crime. As such, by this reasoning, it’s black privilege when a black person is victimized by another black because they can be assured they haven’t been singled out by race? D’oh!

20. I can easily buy posters, postcards, picture books, greeting cards, dolls, toys, and children’s magazines featuring people of my race.

Again, demographics and basic economics. Secondly, this woman is saying that the racial favoritism in media that she’s condemning in whites is acceptable among non-whites, and to not accommodate the racial favoritism in media for non-whites is an act of racism on the part of whites.

21. I can go home from most meetings of organizations I belong to feeling somewhat tied in, rather than isolated, out-of-place, outnumbered, unheard, held at a distance, or feared.

Scatterbomb of garbage. It’s a common human reaction to feel odd when you’re the only one of one group of people at any given place, be it racial, gender, nationality, or religion. That is not “white privilege” it has nothing to do with anyone’s attitude except the person that is feeling those emotions. However, as is rife on the political Left, negative feelings minority groups experience are necessarily considered a type of a racial crime and blame externalized without consideration of other possible options. This is one of the basic concepts of Left social thought. Don’t forget it.

If this is white privilege when it’s a non-white in a group of whites, is it black privilege when it’s a white in a group of blacks? No, rather this would be called white racism.

22. I can take a job with an affirmative action employer without having co-workers on the job suspect that I got it because of my race.

The author of this piece is actually engaging in this very type of thinking; white-dominated anything is white racial cronyism, not merit or other tangibles. Again, the shoe doesn’t fit on the other foot.

The Left want people hired because of their race. They’re quite open about it. Hire people for reasons of race but don’t you dare notice it… Or something?

23. I can choose public accommodation without fearing that people of my race cannot get in or will be mistreated in the places I have chosen.

Has this existed in over 50 years? The first part extremely unlikely and the second part barely less extremely unlikely. Again, I’ve been treated poorly at black-owned establishments or white-owned ones with black staff. The idea that this is a one-way street of exclusive country club racial privilege is absolute horse shit.

24. I can be sure that if I need legal or medical help, my race will not work against me.

Only if you mythologize all people in legal or medical jobs as white AND racist. That’s not reality. What actually goes on now is that whites have a tendency to walk on eggshells and kiss ass with such people, not give them the shaft. As I said, this isn’t 1788.

25. If my day, week, or year is going badly, I need not ask of each negative episode or situation whether it has racial overtones.

Ah! The cat is out of the bag! Hostile attributional bias against white people manifesting as suspicion of “racial overtones” due to the race of the person that hurt one’s feelings and nothing else! That’s black and brown racism, NOT white racism! And the only way to solve that is to get rid of white people, or at least give non their own country.

I never consider an interaction with a person of another race as having racial overtones unless they give me a reason to do so, and simply being another race is NOT a reason, and that is the very “reason” this woman is speaking of.

Again, it’s blaming racially hostile sentiments among non-whites on white people and holding these people in no way responsible for their poor attitudes.

26. I can choose blemish cover or bandages in “flesh” color and have them more or less match my skin.

I grew up in the late 1980s when this screed was written, and one thing I do remember quite specifically is that such skin tone diverse bandages WERE sold in stores for several years… But they didn’t sell well and were eventually discontinued on account of it. The reason for the discontinuation was on television news and what happened? People cried racism.

Either this woman spent the 1980s living in a hole, or she is lying about these bandages.

I find that bandages are too dark for my skin tone and are a better fit on a Latino or northeast Asian. Brown/yellow privilege? Must be.

As we can see, this woman’s ASSessment is reckless, stupid, ill-conceived, poorly-considered and generally idiotic. We see no evidence of alternate explanations. We see no indication that the people who feel these things toward white people have racial hostility issues themselves that they need to overcome.

THIS is what happens when you’re white and are brainwashed at an impressionable age to blame your own people for the misery of others. You grow up (only physically) and turn into people like Peggy McIntosh. It can get so fanatical that you invent crimes. Everything needs context and reasonable evidence, and when you only trash one demographic of people in the name of “anti-racism,” you’re either extremely stupid or extremely lying. If you were truly “antiracist” as this woman has made a career out of claiming to be, you’d call out racism no matter where it came from or who does it.

If you don’t and only attack one group, you are the racist.

THIS is the racial Left, people.  Blame white people first. Last. Always.

And never place an iota of onus on getting along in anyone else’s lap.
