Like a stuck record, Obama has taken to repeating the same slogan after every highly-publicized shooting incident involving rifles in an attempt to give the obviously unconstitutional 2013 redo of Feinstein’s so-called Assault Weapons Ban CPR: “Weapon of war.” It’s becoming a mantra, if it isn’t already.
In 2015 after the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood incident: “[W]e have to do something about the easy accessibility of weapons of war on our streets to people who have no business wielding them.”
After the Aurora Theater massacre, “But I also share your belief that weapons that were designed for soldiers in war theaters don’t belong on our streets.”
After Newtown, “I am also betting that the majority, the vast majority, of responsible law-abiding gun owners would be some of the first to say that we should be able to keep an irresponsible, law-breaking few from buying a weapon of war…”
Never mind that the 2013 Assault Weapons Ban he was marketing didn’t attempt to keep the rifles from the law-breaking few but banned it entirely in the future from the majority as a whole from purchasing, and now his latest pretext for banning common rifles is a deranged shack-dweller in Colorado.
In other words, Obama was lying. Though he has been caught lying on the gun issue before such as in the Washington Post’s analysis Obama’s Odd Series of Exaggerated Gun Claims
“[C]ommon-sense gun-safety laws,” is his euphemism for the far-reaching semiautomatic rifle ban of 2013 authored by Diane Feinstein which would ban an entire class of rifles – most rifles manufactured… Supposedly to save lives in spite of that rifles of all kinds are used in 300-400 murders per year.
The large majority of firearm murders are committed with common handguns which the Feinstein legislation does not cover.
